|When||Sunday 23 June at 1:00pm to 4:00pm|
Wakefield City Centre
Join Yorkshire Sculpture International (YSI) for a celebratory street party including food, art, music, and performances, taking place around one of YSI's new public sculpture commissions. Through this event, YSI is highlighting all the brilliant people running amazing projects in Wakefield and the surrounding areas. This street party will be open to the public as well as all the groups YSI has been working with over the past two years.
The street party is planned to coincide with Refugee Week (17 – 23 June), and will showcase YSI's community sculpture projects, which started earlier this year with refugee and migrants from across Leeds and Wakefield.
Refugee Week is a nationwide programme of arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, and encourages a better understanding between communities.
What is Yorkshire Sculpture International?
Yorkshire Sculpture International (YSI) is the UK's largest dedicated sculpture festival. Produced by Leeds Art Gallery, Henry Moore Institute, The Hepworth Wakefield and Yorkshire Sculpture Park. Alongside free, vibrant events and activities there will be a series of inspiring exhibitions and public commissions celebrating international sculpture. Taking place over 100 days this summer from 22 June to 29 September 2019.
YSI will feature major new commissions in city centre locations. YSI's street party will be centred around artist Huma Bhabha (b.1962 Karachi, Pakistan), who is making her first public realm commission in the UK for Yorkshire Sculpture International, Wakefield City Centre.
