Projects should improve household income through the promotion of community based ‘Healthy Holiday’ provision for children and their families. Healthy holiday projects should target one of the following priority areas: City, Central, North West, South West, Normanton and Featherstone (map is available within the guidance documents.

The fund will be a grant of up to £15k available to establish ‘Healthy Holiday’ project(s) which addresses the issue of hunger and promotes health and wellbeing for children and families by:

  • Planning and implementing a programme of targeted holiday activities for school aged children across the Wakefield district, which provide a meal as part of the offer
  • Developing the awareness, skills and confidence of families around how to cook healthy food together on a budget.
  • Offering a range of enrichment and physical activities which could include sporting, arts and creative activities, dependant on what you understand will best meet the needs of the local community
  • Through attendance at the healthy holiday activities children and young people’s risk of being involved in anti-social behaviour is reduced.
  • Proactively work with existing local provision and partner agencies to source food for families.
  • Capture information on the outcomes, success and learning of your project and share with the Council and the Our Family Our Future network of providers.
  • Work with local partners to offer a programme of parenting/carer support sessions as part of a healthy holiday provision, which links to the objectives of the councils ‘More Money in my Pocket’ initiative to reduce poverty across Wakefield.https://www.wakefield.gov.uk/more-money-in-my-pocket
