Open Country is a fantastic disability charity with 25 years experience in running outdoor activities around North Yorkshire. It recently started working in Wakefield and needs volunteers for the 'Wild about Wakefield' project.

Open Country needs volunteers on the 'Wild about Wakefield' project to help guide adults with visual impairments on walks, push wheelchairs on its weekend outings, front ride in its seasonal tandem cycling club and to help its nature conservation task days run smoothly.

Based from Thornes Park just south of the centre of Wakefield, Open Country is using minibus transportation to access the countryside, particularly local parks and nature reserves in the district.

There are loads of benefits to being outdoors regularly as well as the new friends you will no doubt meet along the way! There is no minimum amount of time you need to dedicate to working with Open Country; some of Open Country's volunteers commit to coming out with the project twice weekly, whilst others find time to join the project once a year on its weekend outings. Open Country is also looking for volunteers to help with bike maintenance and to aid with fundraising for the project.

So if you have a love of the outdoors and an empathy for people with disabilities, Open Country would love to hear from you!
