Here are the schemes which the Live Well Wakefield Small Grants Fund has awarded funds to in Round 4. The fund is funded by Wakefield Council. Funding is allocated via the Live Well Wakefield Small Grants Panel, which involves colleagues from Nova, Wakefield Council and SWYPFT.

Balne Lane Yoga Club

Target beneficiaries:

  • Elderly people

Details of the scheme:

  • To run a weekly yoga club at Balne Lane Community Centre, providing a safe and accessible place for the members (present and future) to participate in physical and mental exercise, mindfulness and relaxation.

Castleford Heritage Trust

Target beneficiaries:

  • People who are lonely, isolated, in need of friendship and looking for something to do

Details of th scheme:

  • To start up a regular weekly social session based at Queen's Mill, delivering a variety of social, health and wellbeing activities including reminiscence, local history, boccia bowling, games, quizzes, bingo, arts and crafts and much more.

Chinwag Club

Target beneficiaries:

  • People with needs who feel isolated

Details of the scheme:

  • Start up a 'Welcome All' project to cater for people with dementia, learning difficulties and to reduce isolation.

Community Minded Supporters' Group

Target beneficiaries:

  • People with mental health issues and socially isolated people

Details of the scheme:

  • To run a six-week course around creative writing with a focus on positive mental health for adults, this will involve short story writing and poetry with a focus on self-expression.
  • The course will run four times over the course of a year with a celebration event at the end.

Five Towns Stroke Club

Target beneficiaries:

  • People affected by stroke, including family members and carers, that live in the Five Towns and South East areas

Details of the scheme:

  • To provide a regular meeting place where individuals can share information on life after stroke, give peer to peer support, offer reassurance and guidance.

GASPED

Target beneficiaries:

  • People with mental health issues, members of the Positive Mental Health Network, general public, GP practices, libraries

Details of the scheme:

  • In collaboration with other members of the Positive Mental Health Network, the aim is to pilot a Postcard Project which will involve a number of network members coming together to deliver a project aimed at: reducing stigma of mental health challenges; promoting the benefits of prevention/self-help; promoting the individual organisations that are members of the network by raising awareness of them and the work they do; increasing knowledge around the local organisations amongst the general public and statutory authorities.

  • Other staff, volunteers, and service users

Details of the scheme:

  • To upskill members of staff to become Mental Health First Aiders to ensure staff are up to date with their knowledge and able to share this with other staff and volunteers to best support service users.

One to One Development Trust

Target beneficiaries:

  • Local people in Lupset, participants, staff and volunteers

Details of the scheme:

  • Working with different adult groups at St George's Community Centre on Linking Lupset, an arts/health/technology project.

Second Chance Headway Centre

Target beneficiaries:

  • Adults with acquired brain injuries

Details of the scheme:

  • To provide therapeutic art sessions for adults with acquired brain injuries, and to provide real evidence to inform future funders and benefits assessors of the value of art therapy in a real, tangible, local setting.

St Catherine's Church Centre

Target beneficiaries:

  • Adults affected by mental ill health; experiencing food poverty; on low income; with drug/alcohol dependency; from BAME groups; experiencing isolation and loneliness

Details of the scheme:

  • To deliver the 'Moving Forward' project that aims to deliver more in-depth work with service users so that they make progress rather than continuing to rely on support services.

St Peters Church, Stanley

Target beneficiaries:

  • Elderly people

Details of the scheme:

  • To be able to continue to offer a range of activities at the weekly lunch club.

Well Women Centre

Target beneficiaries:

  • South Asian women

Details of the scheme:

  • Extension and enhancement to the activity sessions, community events and celebrations held for South Asian women in the district.

Yorkshire Visually Impaired Cricket Club

Target beneficiaries:

  • Visually impaired people aged 18+

Details of the scheme:

  • Provide practice sessions during the winter to improve the fitness, performance and confidence of the team, as well as reducing social isolation.
