Open Country is a registered charity that seeks to enable people with disabilities to access the countryside. It offers a wide range of countryside activities and information and runs the 'Wild about Wakefield' project. The project aims to work with people with any disability across Wakefield enabling them to access the outdoors through a suite of different activities including: a seasonal evening tandem club, a weekday working group around the district at local nature reserves and parks with tasks including pond creation, tree planting and dry stone walling, and weekend outings that will go a little bit further out of the area to see country houses and try new adventure sports.

The community centre is located at the heart of Ossett. It is governed by charity trustees and has been established since 1950, with full-time and part-time staff and volunteers. Its purpose is to provide a focal point for the local community to meet and take part in social, educational, leisure and recreational activities and opportunities. The centre is hired to over 30 groups weekly and monthly, equating to an average of 250 users per day. The centre offers facilities for small group meetings, large organisations seminar and conference space, with car parking. It also welcomes family and friends for wedding receptions, special birthdays, etc. The centre has in-house catering and a bar with 5 star hygiene rating.
