Applying for Funding

Applying for funding

Logo shape full circle

We coordinate funding opportunities for VCSE organisations, so you can continue your important work across Wakefield District.

We pride ourselves on being a relational funder and have embraced the 10 Actions to improve charities funding experience recently released by IVAR.

On this page, you can find our grant management guidelines and some helpful resources. This relates to funding distributed by Nova and the Third Sector Framework.

Steps of our funding progress shown as a flow chart, all details are included on the website page.

Step 1 - Take a look

Funding Page for opportunities and once you've found the fund for you, check the eligibility criteria. For example, some funding may require you to be a member of the Third Sector Framework.

When reading the fund details, look for any Information Sessions we're running where you can hear more about the opportunity and ask any questions.

You can access funding support from our Adviser Team. Get in touch at info@nova-wd.org.uk or call 01924 367418.

Step 2 - Submit your application

Submit your application using the guidance provided. This is your chance to tell us about your project, the impact it would have and how it meets the grant criteria.

Please make sure that your budget breakdown is included and your application is submitted before the deadline. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered by the panel.

Step 3 - A grants panel

Our grants panels are made up of impartial individuals with relevant understanding and knowledge. They will review your application and decide which projects are awarded grants.

Step 4 - Notification

Organisations will receive the outcome of their application by email within a maximum of 8 to 10 weeks after the closing date for the fund.

Step 5 - Grant awarded

Once we have received signed grant agreement and bank details, we will make payment to successful organisations. Any organisation that has not received funding from Nova before will also be required to send further documentation to support our fraud checks.

Step 6 - Start your project

We will arrange a project visit to see how things are going and to offer advice and support if needed.

We recognise that things don’t always go according to plan and are happy to support variations or extensions when plans go awry. If you'd like to speak to us about this, get in touch with our team at grants@nova-wd.org.uk.

Step 7 - Monitoring and Evaluation

Organisations will be required to complete monitoring forms throughout their project. The requirements will be outlined in the grant agreement and an email reminder is also sent before the deadline.

We want to work together to give your project the best opportunity of success, capturing learning and successes along the way and not waiting until the end of your funding agreement. To support this, we aim to conduct a visit in the early stages of your project and to keep communication channels open throughout. We understand that not everything will go to plan so if you have any issues throughout the project, please contact us so we can offer support. This may be in the form of an extension or variation.

If, however, issues continue after receiving support, Nova may not consider future applications for funding until satisfactory steps have been taken to resolve the matter.
