Funding Information

This funding is designed to help grassroots sports and activity clubs in Wakefield thrive —whether that’s through better equipment, support with venue costs, or training for volunteers.

Programme Aims and Criteria

  • The Grow Your Club programme supports sport and physical activity clubs in Wakefield District to increase their number of junior participants.
  • Clubs must be affiliated to a National Governing Body (NGB) that is recognised by Sport England.
  • Each successful club will receive a £500 grant which must be used to run introductory sessions.
  • The grant can go towards a coaching course for a new volunteer coach, new equipment and venue hire for the introductory sessions.
  • These sessions must be for new participants that will feed into the youngest affiliated team or age group for the club’s respective sport/activity. E.g. In Football the youngest affiliated age group is U7s, therefore, the introductory sessions for a football club will be for 5–6-year-olds.
  • Introductory sessions must run for at least 3 months.
  • Clubs must charge a small fee for participants to attend the sessions to support ongoing running costs and sustainability.
  • The aim of the programme is for these introductory sessions to run regularly so that clubs are adding new participants at their youngest age groups year on year.

Priorities

  • Small clubs that have more potential to grow
  • Clubs/participants from lower socio-economic areas
  • Female participants and teams
  • Ethnic minority participants and teams
  • Disabled participants and teams
