VCSE Advocate at The Combatting Drugs Partnership

In your role, you see how decisions affect our local communities. We want to give you the opportunity to be part of these decisions, using your understanding of the needs and views of communities to make positive change.

Supported by the Local Authority and Health and Care Partnership, Nova is currently recruiting for five opportunities available as part of VCSE Voices. This project sees leaders from the Voluntary, Communityand Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector attend strategic, decision-making meetings across Wakefield District.

We need your help to advocate for our sector!

About this board

The Combatting Drugs Partnership exists to combat illegal drugs and reduce the harm caused by drugs and alcohol across Wakefield District. The partnership provides strategic leadership and is responsible for overseeing and delivering a joint strategic approach which aligns with thepriorities of the National Combating Drugs Outcome Framework:

  • Breaking drug supply chains
  • Delivering a world-class treatment and recovery system
  • Achieving a shift in the demand for drugs

About this role

The VCSE Advocate will attend board meetings and champion the sector. They will provide knowledge and insight about the needs of VCSE groups and the diverse communities they serve, sharing information from and tothe sector.

We’re looking for a leader from the VCSE sector who can communicate effectively and use their knowledge to influence decision making. You do not have to be a CEO to apply for this role, you could be a volunteer, board member, or work in front-line delivery. We encourage people with different leadership experience to apply, and this is a brilliant opportunity to further develop leadership skills.

The Advocate will have responsibility for reducing drug and alcohol-related harm as an essential part of their role with strong knowledgeof their population and how drugs and alcohol are causing harm locally. The Advocate will support the Partnership in their role of developing, co-ordinating and monitoring a local delivery plan which responds to local needs and evidence.

The Combatting Drugs Partnership meet every 6 weeks and VCSE Advocates meet monthly for peer support, discussion and to share information. 4-6 hours per month is a rough guide but this may vary depending on meetings.
