Express Interest by 15 August: Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) Training

Move More Wakefield would like to invest in ABCD training for locally trusted organisations (LTOs) across Wakefield, open to anyone who engages with the community. The training programme will consist of a number of sessions taking place over several months. Move More Wakefield are inviting interested parties to express their interest, to gauge whether this training is viable - if it is, the costs will be covered by Move More Wakefield.

Why ABCD Training is Beneficial

Traditional ways of helping communities often look at what's wrong or missing. Even though that's important, focusing only on problems can make communities feel powerless and ignore the good things and resources they already have. Asset-Based Community Development flips this around. It's a much stronger way to work that involves finding, bringing together, and making the most of all the good things and talents already present in a community.

Alongside Touchstone Leeds, an ABCD training package has been specifically designed for LTOs working with Move More Wakefield. It supports LTOs to develop sustainable, community-led responses to physical inactivity through inclusive, participatory methods grounded in ABCD principles.

ABCD training equips LTOs with a transformative mindset and practical tools that lead to more effective, sustainable, and empowering outcomes, particularly in addressing physical inactivity. Here are the key benefits:

  • Supports Community-Led Physical Activity Solutions
  • Identifies Local Assets to help with Movement
  • Builds Local Leadership and Confidence
  • Promotes Collaboration and Co-Production
  • Supports Long-Term Impact

This ABCD training package is designed as a flexible, real-world learning offer that complements the test-and-learn nature of the Move More Wakefield approach.

The training costs will be covered by Move More Wakefield, however we do require a sufficient number of attendees to ensure the training is viable. The training programme will take place over several months, allowing time for you to put theory into practice.

Please express your interest, including the number of staff members you think would attend, no later than Friday 15th August. The first workshop is likely to start in September/October.
