Safeguarding Adults - Working in Partnership

This training is aimed at statutory and non-statutory staff who could be required to make safeguarding referrals as part of their role. Note that places are limited and the Safeguarding Board have asked that safeguarding leads/managers with responsibility for submitting safeguarding concerns, rather than frontline staff apply.

Aims

  • Enable multi-agency staff to develop understanding of partners roles and responsibilities in the safeguarding process.
  • Enhance skillset by sharing good practice whilst improving communication.
  • Refresher on Safeguarding policies, protocols and practice.
  • Ensure Making Safeguarding Personal philosophy and principals are embodied in practice.
  • Understand how safeguarding is everybody’s business and how to apply this in practice, with reference to the Conversations Model philosophy and suite of documentation.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of the session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise respective responsibilities under the Care Act 2014 relating to adults with needs for care and support needs.
  • Identify the definition of ‘Safeguarding’ and recognise the meaning and importance of Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP) and the process for S.42 statutory responses.
  • Explain the role and responsibilities of respective partners under the multi-agency policy and procedures.
  • Understand the investigative processes regarding a safeguarding concern, consent issues and the S.42 enquiry process; referral mechanisms, risk management, multi-agency working and the importance of partnership working to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Recognise how individuals can be supported through the safeguarding process by employing the MSP principals in a multi-agency context and working within the Conversations Model philosophy.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act and its critical role in adult safeguarding.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of advocacy and its critical role in adult safeguarding.
  • Discuss different types of evidence and how to preserve using ‘best evidence’ techniques.
  • Recognising self-neglect when carrying out assessments online.
  • Effective online partnership working.
