CIO Creation Station: Building Your Charitable Incorporated Organisation

Is a CIO the best structure for you? From choosing the right structure to implementing key policies and procedures, we’ll give you the knowledge to make a successful start.

This workshop will look give you a good introduction to the CIO model, why it might be right for you, and what you’ll need to consider when getting started.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the legal entity of a CIO and its provision of limited liability for trustees.
  • Learn about the roles and responsibilities of trustees, and implementing good governance practices.
  • Recognise the Charitable Objectives and how to implement them into a governing document.
  • Learn about establishing a CIO, including drafting a constitution, choosing the right governance structure (foundation or association model), and completing the registration process with the Charity Commission.
  • Understand legal obligations, such as filing annual returns and accounts, maintaining proper records, and adhering to charity law.

This is part of our regular series of workshops that support Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) organisations to thrive! It’s a key part of our work and our team are really passionate about learning and development.
