Information about
Women’s Whole System Approach
The West Yorkshire Deputy Mayor is bringing together women’s probation leads, women’s centres and academics from Leeds Beckett University to begin shaping a stronger whole-system approach for women who are at risk of offending, have offended in the past or are currently engaged with the criminal justice system.
A large proportion of these women live with multiple, complex and unmet needs. Many have experienced domestic abuse or sexual violence and face challenges linked to mental health, trauma and drug or alcohol use. A significant number are also primary carers. When support is fragmented or inconsistent, women can be drawn further into the criminal justice system, with knock‑on effects for children, families and long‑term stability.
This event aims to bring partners from across the criminal justice system, local government, the VCFSE sector and academia into one conversation. The focus is to identify where the current system is falling short, understand the gaps that prevent women from receiving coordinated support, and begin setting out what a more effective and integrated approach should look like.
This event is intended as an initial step in building a shared picture of the challenges and opportunities across the county, and in developing a clearer, more coordinated offer for women and their families.
There is an opportunity for organisations to host a stall at this event. If you would like to do so, please let us know.
To confirm your attendance please email consultation.pc@westyorks-ca.gov.uk by Friday 19 June 2026 with your name, role and organisation if applicable, along with any special requirements, dietary or otherwise.
