How to Diversify your Board - A Practical Workshop

This practical workshop, led by Penny Wilson, offers step-by-step guidance on recruiting and retaining diverse trustees. Participants will gain strategies to identify gaps, remove barriers, and embed inclusive practices to build stronger, more representative boards.

85% of charities find it difficult to fill vacancies on their boards (NCVO). Many struggle to recruit the trustees they need, particularly those from under-represented groups. In fact, 59% of charities say their boards are not representative of the communities they serve.

This practical workshop explores how to make trustee boards more diverse, accessible, and effective. We’ll look at who is under-represented on boards, why barriers to trusteeship exist, and how to overcome them. Through step-by-step guidance on recruitment, from identifying gaps to advertising, interviewing, and induction, participants will gain tools to strengthen their boards. The session also covers inclusive practices to support retention.

Anyone involved in recruiting trustees is welcome to attend. The workshop will be delivered by Penny Wilson, an expert in inclusive trustee recruitment.
